Search Lincoln County Court Dockets

North Platte, not the city of Lincoln, is the place to look for a Lincoln County case; the shared name misdirects plenty of mail. The courthouse serves a railroad town that has seen every kind of docket entry since the Union Pacific arrived. County court, under the clerk magistrate, takes traffic, misdemeanors, small claims, and probate. District court takes felonies and larger suits. Rail workers pass through constantly, so out-of-state searches are routine here, and the statewide online case system answers most of them, listing Lincoln County court docket activity by name or case number. The clerks in North Platte handle copies, older files, and anything urgent.

Lincoln County JUSTICE Search Limits

Read the official JUSTICE terms before paying. A one-time search costs $17, even when no record comes back. Results remain viewable for three calendar days, and the system caps results at 30 cases. Entries can lag by 24 hours. If a common name floods your Lincoln County court docket search, narrow it by court, type, or year. Do not treat the first batch as everything.

Inside a Lincoln County Court Docket

Nebraska calls the dated case-event history a Register of Actions. Each Lincoln County entry might record a complaint or petition, service, a motion, a notice of setting, a hearing, a continuance, an order, a judgment, a payment, or a disposition. Pay attention to the later entries. A reset only moves a date and decides nothing. And a visible case summary never guarantees that every document image is open to the public.

DispositionThe outcome or status entered by the court.

Lincoln County Register Terms

Read the wording of a Lincoln County docket in order. A notice of setting just places an event on the calendar. A hearing-held entry is a different thing. A continuance or reset means an earlier date moved. The outcome layer is the judgment or disposition. Linked images sit apart from the docket history and follow the court's own access rules.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Lincoln County

Two state trial courts hold dockets here. County Court covers traffic matters, ordinance complaints, and misdemeanors. It also handles preliminary hearings in felony cases, probate, juvenile matters, small claims, and civil cases that fall within its jurisdiction. District Court takes the rest: felonies after bind-over, its own civil docket, domestic relations, child support, and appeals. JUSTICE lets you search both courts, though each keeps a clerk file of its own.

Lincoln County Clerks Keep Separate Files

Annette Shafer is listed as Clerk Magistrate and Clerk of County Court. Crystal Schliep is listed as Clerk of District Court. County Court sits in Room 207 at the Lincoln County Courthouse, 301 N Jeffers Street, North Platte. Know the court level before you call or request a record. For District Court files before December 22, 2001, and for judgments missing from the county table, the local records information points you to the Clerk of District Court.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

The free Nebraska court calendar covers Lincoln County Court or Lincoln District Court. Search by a current or future date. Or search by a last name with at least two characters. A result can show the court, location, judge, case number, caption, time, and setting type. Then check the Register of Actions for any later notice, continuance, order, or hearing-held entry.

The calendar itself warns that it may not be timely. An empty result does not prove no setting exists. For a same-day Lincoln County court date, confirm the court, time, location, and reset status with the clerk. More local calendar detail lives in Court Dates.

Lincoln County Calendar Results Need Confirmation

Lincoln County spans about 2,564 square miles, with the courthouse in North Platte. Remote calendar access is great for planning a drive. It cannot replace a confirmation call. For a changed setting, a sealed case, or a same-day hearing, the latest Register of Actions entry and the clerk are the safer sources.

Confirm before appearing. Match the newest Register of Actions event with the calendar and ask the proper clerk to confirm a time-sensitive setting.

Docket Access Under Nebraska Law

Nebraska Court Rule §1-805 permits defined electronic access to public party indexes, case summaries, Registers of Actions, available images, calendars, and certain judgment information. Nebraska Court Rule §1-808 excludes sealed records, adoption material, protected criminal-history information, and anything else the law makes confidential. The general framework for inspection and copying is Nebraska Revised Statute §84-712.

Key Rules:

Nebraska Court Rule §1-805 describes public electronic court information.

Nebraska Court Rule §1-808 identifies protected and sealed exclusions.

Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 addresses inspection and copying.

Neb. Rev. Stat. §33-126.05 sets County Court copy and certificate charges.

Lincoln County Copies Are Different Products

Know what you are ordering. A Register of Actions is an index. A document image is a public filing when available. A plain copy just reproduces a document. A certified copy carries a clerk certificate or seal. Under the CC 3:29 form, electronic non-certified copies are free, mailed non-certified copies run $0.25 per page, electronic certified copies cost $1 per request, and mailed certified copies cost $1 per seal plus $0.25 per page. Check current payment and submission practices with the relevant clerk.

Once you know the court, case number, caption, document, and date, follow the official copy-request instructions. Nebraska policy does not require staff to certify that a search found no record.

Lincoln County Docket Volume

The FY2025 County Court report counts 8,484 adult filings in Lincoln County. It adds 234 juvenile filings. Traffic led the adult side with 3,467. Civil came in at 2,346, misdemeanor at 1,920, and felony-stage at 457. Treat these as filings only. They are not people, outcomes, or a count of currently pending cases. Because the volume is so lopsided toward traffic and civil matters, any Lincoln County case search goes faster with court-level and case-type filters in place.

Lincoln County State and Federal Dockets

Federal court sometimes holds sessions at the Lincoln County Courthouse in North Platte. That does not put federal cases into Nebraska JUSTICE, though. County Court and District Court are still the right picks. Use them for Lincoln County state trial-court records.

For federal dockets, use PACER or the federal CM/ECF system. Sharing one building never merged the two record systems.

For court locations and contacts, see the federal North Platte directory.

Docket Records at the Clerk's Office

The two offices even post different hours. County government lists the courthouse as open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The County Court page says 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Confirm counter hours before you drive over. A JUSTICE terminal at the courthouse gives free public access with no remote search charge. State policy adds public terminals elsewhere. You can find them at the Nebraska State Library, UNL Schmid Law Library, and Creighton Klutznick Law Library. The County Court directory carries the contact details for that office.

Lincoln County Court Dockets by City

North Platte, Sutherland, Hershey, Brady, and Wallace are the five incorporated places in the Census 2020 ranking. None of the five runs its own municipal court docket portal. City ordinance pages and board meeting minutes add local-government context, but the cases themselves travel the Lincoln County state court route.

Lincoln County Court Technology History

Lincoln County's JUSTICE computerization dates explain a lot about record access. Criminal and traffic data, along with District Court data, entered the system in April 1997. Probate and adoption followed in May 1998. Civil, small claims, and juvenile categories joined in 1999. Those dates mark when each category came online. They are not a promise that every older filing exists as an online image.

The court system says public electronic images are generally available only for documents filed or uploaded after April 16, 2008. A Lincoln County event history may still be searchable. The paper record may sit in a clerk's file drawer. That older-file lane matters most for District Court records from before December 22, 2001. When you request copies, give the court level, case number, caption, and document date. A search-screen result is rarely the whole case file.

Electronic filing is a third, separate lane. Nebraska Judicial Branch trial-court eFiling transmits documents for registered attorneys and parties. It is not the public docket viewer. JUSTICE stays the public route to a Lincoln County case summary. The clerk supplies copies, certification, and local confirmation.

Lincoln County Court Search Fallbacks

A Lincoln County case may not surface on the first pass. Work the documented alternatives. Check spelling and the party role. Add court level, case type, and year to narrow the field. Remember the 24-hour entry lag. Restricted, juvenile, adoption, or sealed matters simply display less than an ordinary civil case. An older District Court file may live in the clerk's historical records lane. It may not be on the web.

The courthouse public terminal is the local option with no remote search fee. Nebraska policy also names public terminals elsewhere. Those sit at the Nebraska State Library, UNL Schmid Law Library, and Creighton Klutznick Law Library. Frequent searchers can look at the separate Nebraska.gov subscriber service. Neither route opens a sealed record or produces a certification. For copies, name the court, county, case number, caption, document, and date.

Federal sessions in Lincoln County create one more mismatch. A missing state docket may just be a federal case. Those belong in PACER or federal CM/ECF. A city ordinance lookup is another near miss, not a court case search. The North Platte ordinance system shows code language. The ordinance complaint itself is filed through County Court under Nebraska law.

Lincoln County Court Search Fallbacks

A missing Lincoln County case does not mean the record is gone. Work the fallback chain in order. Recheck the spelling and the party role. Also check the court level, the case type, and the rough filing year. Remember that JUSTICE entries can lag by 24 hours. Some files simply show less. Juvenile, adoption, sealed, or protected cases carry tighter limits than an ordinary public court record.

If a modern docket search still comes up empty for an older District Court matter, call the Clerk of District Court. The courthouse public terminal is another local option, and Nebraska policy also lists terminals at the Nebraska State Library, UNL Schmid Law Library, and Creighton Klutznick Law Library. None of these routes lifts a restriction or produces a certified copy. When you request a document, state the court, county, case number, caption, document, and date.

Beware of near matches. A North Platte ordinance lookup points to code language, not a court case. Federal records are not absent from a Lincoln County court docket by accident. They live in PACER and CM/ECF. Identify the court system first, then pick the right record channel.

Lincoln County Federal Case Locator

Suspect a federal case but do not know the district? The federal court system runs a separate nationwide locator. It exists for exactly that situation. It works only for federal matters. It will not search a Lincoln County County Court or District Court Register of Actions. It cannot replace Nebraska JUSTICE on a state case. The PACER Case Locator is the tool that official page presents.

Use this federal tool only after confirming the matter sits outside the Nebraska state trial-court docket system.

Map and Directions to the Lincoln County Courthouse

District Court files are kept at the Lincoln County Courthouse, 301 N Jeffers Street in North Platte, where the Clerk of District Court's office is locally described as being on the third floor. County Court, a separate clerk in the same building, works from Room 207. The 1932 courthouse, rebuilt after a 1923 fire, also hosts federal District of Nebraska and Bankruptcy Court sessions, so confirming the room or floor before arrival avoids a wrong-office trip.
